PSHE
Intent and Rationale
KS3
PSHE at KS3 aims to enable pupils to gain knowledge and skills to be safe, develop a strong sense of self and discover the opportunities to succeed in our society. To achieve this, the curriculum offers pupils opportunities to explore their own identity, self-interests, qualities, aspirations and values within both relationships and the wider world and how these are paramount for their own safeguarding. They learn about the community they are a part of and reflect on their place and contributions within it. Pupils will learn how to foster a culture of respect for all, which includes students developing the knowledge and skills to make choices that demonstrate respect for themselves and the community they are a part of. Respect importantly extends to others; understanding and celebrating diversity in many forms is a key aspect of the curriculum. The nature of the subject allows the development of skills such as critical thinking, assertiveness, effective communication, accountability.
KS4
Pupils will gain an accurate understanding of a variety of topics that are paramount to their safeguarding, considering how often these are tainted by taboo, misinformation or stigma. This will empower them to take choices during a variety of challenging situations in life by using their own values and sense of self as guidance. By drawing on the skills and knowledge learnt at KS3, pupils will gain confidence to become independent and well-rounded individuals who can be successful in a competitive world of employment and fast-paced society. Students will develop further the skills and knowledge acquired atKS3 to be able to adapt themselves, make sense and keep safe in new situations and new types of relationships.
