Student leadership
TMS Student Parliament: Empowering Student Voice
At The Mandeville School, we believe in the importance of student leadership and collaboration in shaping our school community. Our Student Parliament provides a structured platform for students to express their ideas, raise concerns and contribute to the continuous improvement of our school environment. Guided by our school values – Believe, Achieve, Succeed – the Student Parliament empowers every student to make a meaningful impact.
Structure and Roles
Our Student Parliament is designed to ensure that every year group and subject area is represented.
Tutor Group Representatives (Years 7-12): Each tutor group elects a representative at the start of the academic year. These representatives form the foundation of our Student Parliament, ensuring that the views and ideas of every tutor group are heard. By fostering open communication and collaboration, our Tutor Group Representatives believe in the power of teamwork to drive positive change.
Head Students (Year 11): Elected by the entire student body, the Head Students are responsible for leading the student parliament and representing the student community at meetings with Senior Leadership. They succeed in bridging the gap between students and staff, advocating for the needs and ideas of their peers.
Subject Ambassadors (One per Key Stage): Chosen by Heads of Department, Subject Ambassadors represent key academic areas and play a vital role in promoting their subjects during events such as Open Evenings and Options Evenings. They provide valuable insight into their subjects, supporting their peers in making informed academic choices. Through their commitment, Subject Ambassadors believe in the importance of academic excellence and subject engagement.
Our Meetings and Communication
The Student Parliament meets once per half-term to discuss key issues and initiatives. Each meeting is an opportunity to collaborate, share updates and plan projects that reflect the aspirations of our student community. The Head Students also meet with the Head and Deputy Heads of School to ensure that student voices are included in decision-making processes.
Following each meeting, outcomes and decisions are communicated back to students through assemblies and bulletins, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Our Commitment to Student Leadership
Aligned with our school values, the Student Parliament is more than a student council – it is a space where every student is encouraged to believe in their ability to effect change, achieve their leadership potential and succeed in making a lasting impact on our school community.
